Drive yourself around Kerala
- Self-drive car rentals are available through apps like Zoomcar and Revv in major cities (Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode).
- You will need a valid driving licence. International tourists need an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with their home country licence.
- ⚠️ Driving in Kerala can be challenging — roads are narrow, traffic is dense, and driving habits are different from Western countries. Self-driving is only recommended for experienced drivers comfortable with Indian road conditions.
- Fuel (petrol/diesel) is widely available. Most rental cars come with GPS navigation or you can use Google Maps.
- Automatic transmission cars are available but less common — book in advance if you prefer automatic.
