City, coast, backwaters, and hills — the complete Trivandrum experience.

Spend two days exploring Trivandrum city, Kovalam beaches, and the Poovar backwaters. If you have an extra day, escape to the cool hills of Ponmudi for nature treks and wildlife.

🏨We recommend staying at Kovalam for nights 1 and 2 — great beach access, restaurants, and sunset views right at your doorstep.
Day 1

10:00 AM

Trivandrum Zoo & Museums

Start at the Trivandrum Zoo and the cluster of museums nearby — Napier Museum, Natural History Museum, Sri Chitra Art Gallery, KCS Panikker Museum, and Raja Ravivarma Museum. All within walkable distance inside the same compound.

💡 Museums open at 10 AM and are closed on Mondays.

12:30 PM

Day 2

Kovalam & Poovar — Beach, Backwaters & Relaxation

Spend a relaxed day around Kovalam and Poovar, exploring beaches, backwaters, and perhaps an Ayurvedic spa.

8:00 AM

Morning at Kovalam

Start with an early swim or walk along the lighthouse beach. The beach is quieter in the morning and perfect for a leisurely start. Water sports are available at Kovalam, including scuba diving, stand-up paddleboarding, and kayaking. Have breakfast at your hotel or one of the cafes along the beach.

10:00 AM

Vizhinjam Lighthouse & Fishing Village

Visit the lighthouse (open 3–6 PM, but the area is worth exploring in the morning too). Walk through the nearby Vizhinjam fishing village to see traditional boats and local life. The Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple is also nearby.

11:30 AM
🚗

Drive to Poovar

Poovar is about 10 km south of Kovalam (20–30 minutes). A serene backwater island where the river meets the sea.

12:00 PM

Poovar Backwater Cruise & Golden Sand Beach

Take a boat ride through the scenic backwaters — kayak or traditional houseboat. Visit the Golden Sand Beach, a pristine strip of sand accessible only by boat. Enjoy lunch at one of the Poovar resorts or get a day pass.

3:00 PM

Kovalam and Poovar are famous for Ayurvedic treatments. Book a traditional massage or spa session — many resorts and dedicated Ayurvedic centres offer walk-in packages.

Day 3 (Optional)

If you have an extra day, head to Ponmudi for a refreshing change from the coast. This hill station is about 60 km from Trivandrum and offers cool weather, lush greenery, and trekking trails.

7:00 AM
🚗

Drive to Ponmudi

The drive from Kovalam to Ponmudi takes about 2–2.5 hours (75 km). The road winds through rubber plantations and dense tropical forest with 22 hairpin bends — the journey itself is an experience.

💡 Start early to make the most of the cool morning weather at the hilltop.

9:30 AM

Ponmudi — Trek & Explore

Ponmudi ("Golden Peak") sits at about 1,100 metres. Trek through the misty trails surrounded by tea gardens and dense forests. Short treks lead to these waterfalls nestled in the forest. Meenmutty Falls cascades down rocky steps — a great spot for photos and a refreshing dip if conditions allow.

1:00 PM
