Vagavanam, nestled near the picturesque hill station of Vagamon in Kerala’s Idukki district, offers an enchanting trekking experience through its lush greenery and serene landscapes. This trek, often called the “Windy Walk,” is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers.
The journey begins at the Kerala Forest Department office in Ottamarapara, approximately 8 kilometers from the Vagamon junction. After completing the necessary formalities and obtaining the entry ticket (₹155 per person), visitors embark on a guided trek lasting about 3.5 hours. The trail meanders through tar roads, mud jeep tracks, and grasslands, offering panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. During the monsoon season, the path can be slippery, so it’s advisable to exercise caution.
Participants are required to report to the KFDC Windy Walk booking office (ottamarampara) prior to 15:00LT. It is highly advisable to confirm the trek schedule and availability via telephone, as adverse weather conditions, such as potential thunderstorms or lightning, may lead to the cancellation of the trek. An experienced guide from KFDC will accompany you throughout the trek.
