Eco Tourism Konni (Anathavalam) lies on the banks of the Achankovil River in the Konni forest division of Pathanamthitta district, and is best known for its historic elephant training centre. For generations Konni has been famous for the giant wooden cages known as elephant kraals, or "Aanakkoodu", where captured and rescued elephants were once housed and tamed, making it a unique window into Kerala's long relationship with these gentle giants.
Run by the Kerala Forest Department, the centre offers a varied set of ecotourism experiences, from the Elephant Kraal and Museum and elephant feeding (Anayoottu) to tree-top bamboo hut stays at Adavi and a full-day bus tour through the forests to the famous Gavi rainforest. It is an ideal base for families, nature lovers and travellers wanting to explore the rich biodiversity of the Konni and Ranni forests.

A bus tour to Gavi from Adavi will gasp you whenever the thick curtain of woods part to give you glimpses of stunning landscapes. On the way, you can see some of the beautiful dams in Kerala – Moozhiyar, Kakki, and Anathodu. You can also see the waters of Kochu Pamba at Gavi and on the return journey, you can see plantation towns of Vandiperiyar, Peerumedu, Mundakayam, and Ranni. This is a full day programme and lunch is arranged at Gavi.

Elephant Kraal & Museum

Konni, famous for the elephant training happening in the state attracts a huge number of visitors every year. People visit here to see the biggest animal on land in close quarters without fear. One of the major attractions at Konni is the giant wooden cages or the elephant kraals used to house the elephants. Locally known as Aanakoodu, they can house up to 3 to 4 elephants at a time. The place also has a children’s park. The centre is closed on Mondays.
