Abhayaranyam Ecotourism, located in Kaprikkad near Kunnathunadu in Ernakulam district, Kerala, is a serene wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center managed by the Kerala Forest Department. It serves as an extension of the Kodanad Elephant Training Centre, offering a natural habitat for rescued and orphaned animals, especially elephants and deer. Spread across lush greenery on the banks of the Periyar River, Abhayaranyam is ideal for eco-tourism, environmental education, and nature walks. The park promotes conservation awareness while allowing visitors to experience wildlife in a peaceful, forest-like setting.

A haven for animals, Abhayaranyam is a nature rehabilitation centre for orphaned wildlife situated near Kaprikad at Kunnathukadu Taluk in Ernakulam district. Nestled on the banks of River Periyar, this place attracts numerous visitors to see wildlife in their natural habitat and to enjoy the deep woods here. One may also enjoy the waters of gushing Periyar River.

Home to various species of birds, butterflies, spiders, and mushrooms, Abhayaranyam has an elephant shelter and also a training center for mahouts. The place also has a community hall, nature camps, and many more.

Getting there

🛺 Cover the last leg from Malayattoor Pally by auto-rickshaw (approximately ₹100 for the trip).

🚆 Coming by train from other destinations, get down at Angamaly Railway Station, take a bus to "Malayattoor Pally", then an auto-rickshaw for the last leg.
